(a bit of forewarning: I just figured out how to input a hyperlink. I went hyperlink crazy. Its that simple)
I was enspired by Timmy to write a bit about the things that I have been enjoying lately. I’ve been writing so much about the stuff in my head that I thought it would be good to lighten things up a bit.
Its Spring. Let’s be honest with ourselves. I know that Spring isn’t official for another 10 days, but it sort of feels like saying “The unofficial results of the Daytona 500 are…” when we all know darn well The Intimidator had it in the bag by a long shot. I am welcoming Spring with open arms this year. I usually hold onto the cold with bitter fury, but this time around I am excited. Although, I imagine that come mid July I will be dreaming about the cold.
Baseball starts in 15 days 3 hours and 22 minutes. I have been watching a PBS Baseball documentary for the last couple of days. Its quite extensive. Nine discs, or as they put it, nine innings, and each disc is a good two hours long. I am barely at the top of the third (which means I am at about 1910 in the history of the sport). But dammit I am excited! I love baseball! I never played baseball (unless you count my t-ball years, and my one year stint in the minor leagues). I spent my summers in a Speedo shaving my legs in order to shave off a second. I’ve come to believe that my love for baseball is my attempt to make up for the years that I had the legs of a woman.
I’ve been listening to boysetsfire. Its been a fun journey through my early years in the Post-Hardcore scene. boysetsfire’s first full length c.d. “The Day the Sun Went Out” was probably the first c.d. I bought of this kind. I bought it because my friend Jordan Haggard’s brother listened to boysetsfire, and he was in college and was cool and had plugs in his ears and was vegan and I wanted to be like him. I remember very vividly buying the c.d. and, while nobody was home, playing it on my parents entertainment system. I also remember being scared. I had the feeling I was listening (and reading) something very controversial. It makes me smile these days. I’ve also been going down memory lane watching this Thursday music video. This seriously takes me back to the summers of my youth. I used to want to be just like these guys!
I have been reading the Autobiography of Martin Luther King Jr. Its amazing. MLK was a genius. Its been very illuminating for me. Especially to see how misrepresented he was to me in elementary school. I had a completely different impression of this man. I just thought he was cool because we didn’t have to go to school on his birthday and because he said “I have a dream…” Little did I know that he said a whole lot more. His brilliance is astounding and, in my opinion, should be read by everyone. How I wish that I could live my life like him! A true understanding of the message of Jesus.
I also just finished watching Oliver Stone’s movie, World Trade Center. More of which I will talk about in a future post. Probably to dive back into my head, and heart.
Thanks for reading this friends, and caring about what I care about.
