The Oregon Trail

hearts will mend on the open road

Why? January 7, 2008

We know very little about what we are doing, and even less about the reasons why.  But if I were to try and explain, this is the best that I could do.

Perhaps this is nothing more than a trip; a vacation.  But for the both of us there seems to be something brooding beneath the surface and for over a year now we have been waiting for the moment to pull out our shovels and begin removing the dirt.

Simply put, we are venturing up to Portland for two reason:

1) To have fun, and lots of it.  Traveling in an unknown place, doing things that we’ve never done before, seeing faces that we’ve never seen.  It will be exciting.  It will be refreshing.

2) To see if we could, in fact, move to Portland.  And this is where the treasure lies.  Darcie and I are ready for change; a change of weather, a change of pace, a change in geography.  And as we’ve fallen in love with the idea of Portland through stories, and books we take off to find out for ourselves.  To find out if the Pacific Northwest is a place that we could set our roots, and be nurtured.

So with this road trip we dig, and we drive.  And in the end we will see where we stand.
